Microfilm Baptisimal Records

I am ordering up microfilm for baptism records for both Huejucar and Cololan for the mid-1880s.

Some of the dates are overlapped by baptisms "naturales". I am not exactly sure what that means.

Which one is best to order to find all the necessary data: the baptisms, the baptisms "naturales", or should I order BOTH sets to be sure to find the necessary data?

Baptisms "naturales" are children born out of wedlock.

If you do a search within nuestrosranchos.org you can see previous discussions on the subject.

I would definatly look for both first off with Legítimos then Naturales because we never know if our ancestors had children before they married. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE IN GENEALOGY!

    Joseph,
Bautismos "naturales" means that the parents were not married. I would check both sets of records, several times I have found one or two children in a family in the "naturales" records even though the parents were married and other children were in other records. It usually happens around the time a new priest took over.

I have copies of Mexican birth records where some children were born before the parents were married and therefore listed as hijos naturales and sometimes written as illegitimos.  Then there are birth records of children form the same parents shown as legitimos, presumably born after they were married!!  Another thing the local priests do is change the surname spelling.  I have seen Bareda v Barrera in the same family due to a priestly misspelling which becomes recorded for history, thus effectively changing the surname. Many Spanish last names have these changes.  Phonic error is responsible.

    Jaime,

I have a Lopez Gonzales and Lopez Cerbantes (mom is Felipa/Maria Felipa) in my 8th generation; everything else connects well. Is this the same mom with Cerbantes/Gonzales? How do I choose father's surname? Do I need to go further back to find out?

I guess I need reassurance that I'm in the right track? Thank you.
