I also need to know where I could find birth/baptism records for Aguascalientes.
Where would we look for them? Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

    LDS records for Aguascalientes birth/baptism/marriage/divorce

To navigate there, rather than a direct link: go to https://www.familysearch.org/. Then scroll down to the "Mexico" link; this next page is in a somewhat adhoc/alphabetical order, so look through it carefully - the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 23rd links in the list are searchable records that have been transcribed by LDS for Census (1930), deaths, baptisms, and marriages respectively. There are SOME transcribed records for Aguascalientes in these searchable links. There are other links by state/territory as well, but Aguascalientes in not in the list.

The 7th link is "Mexico, Catholic Church Records" - these are scanned images of church record books - they contain far more than the searchable links above. If you click this link, you'll see a "Browse through 16,596,760 images" link. Click this link, then click on "Aguascalientes" (the state), then on "Aguascalientes" (the township/county). Then you'll see a list of church names or civil repositories. Click on the one you want, and now you can see the record collections by type and year. Have fun.

A short word - some of these record collections are indexed in the front of the book (if the church policy was to do so). It is usually indexed in chronological order and by first name. I found my wife's grandfather by searching the index pages of three sets of records (I didn't have his exact birthdate) - his first name was Joaquin, there were not that many entries with that name, so I eventually found his actual record further in the book.

Second, the records are sometimes very easy to read and sometimes not. For baptisms, they always start with the date, then some mumbo jumbo... "annointing with the oils of the Saints..., the the key words "hijo legitimo" - this is where you'll want to train your eye to focus. Also, bear in mind that in almost all cases, when they get to the edge of the page, they just pick up mid-word and continue on the next line (no hyphens).

Let me know if you have questions of troubles - have patience. I had to write down the entire alphabet in lower and upper case from the pages I was scanning as a key to reading the document - it just takes a little time.

    Good luck,

    Jerome Stofleth
